“In waiting” is the graduation project presented by Khaled Dawwa at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus in 2007. It is a collection of sculptures made of different sizes of polyester, consisting of “King of Waiting”, “Waiters” and other variations of individual characters. This shows the state of waiting that Khaled himself was living in, and he understands it as a general state in which the Syrian society as a whole live.
This collection represents the beginning of the sculptor’s awareness of his ability to adapt clay using simple tools, most notably the knife to express his thoughts, complex social themes and various human situations.
Khaled continued to work on variations and formations under the theme of “In waiting.” But the beginning of the Arab Spring in 2010 was the real motivation to move many of his characters later and break the state of waiting and rebellion.
